Hiking Suggestion 1: Zabeltitzer Rundweg (Zabeltitz Circular Trail)

The Zabeltitzer Rundweg passes the Naturlehrpfad (Nature Trail) and leads through the approximately 300 hectare Naturschutzgebiet Röderauwald Zabeltitz (Röderauwald Zabeltitz Nature Reserve). Along the nature trail, visitors gain a unique insight into the diverse flora and fauna. With a little luck, grey herons, great spotted woodpeckers and kingfishers can be observed. The trail also passes the Große Gabelwehr (Great Bifurcation Weir), a newly redesigned inflatable weir where the Röder divides into the Große Röder, Kleine Röder and Geißlitz.

Tour information:

  • Length: approx. 6.3 km
  • Difficulty: easy
  • Duration: approx. 2 hours

Route available on: outdooractive | komoot

Hiking Suggestion 2: Unterwegs auf der Auwaldtour (Floodplain Forest Trail)

Where the Große Röder and Kleine Röder meander through the landscape lies one of the most beautiful natural areas of the Dresden Elbland region. The Auwaldtour (Floodplain Forest Trail) combines Baroque garden design with unspoilt nature and leads through a landscape of rare animals and plants. Over a distance of approximately 16 kilometres, hikers discover the remarkable diversity of the Röderaue, with its deciduous floodplain forests, quiet ponds and wide meadows. The Auwaldtour is one of the 12 favourite hiking trails of the Dresden Elbland region.

Route: Follow the trail marker with the green swan logo.

Tour information:

  • Length: approx. 16 km
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Duration: approx. 4 hours

Hiking suggestion 3: Heideberg-Grenzweg (Heideberg - Border Trail)

At 201.4 metres, Heideberg is the highest elevation in the German state of Brandenburg. The former Königlich Sächsische Station Strauch (Royal Saxon Strauch Station) of the Mitteleuropäische Gradmessung (Central European Arc Measurement) was located on Heideberg in 1866. The Grödener Heidebergturm (Gröden Heideberg Tower), newly erected in 2009, is well worth climbing. From its viewing platform at a height of 29 metres, visitors can enjoy panoramic views, weather permitting, of the Keulenberg (Upper Lusatia), Collmberg (near Oschatz), Festung Königstein (Königstein Fortress, Saxon Switzerland), Kraftwerk Boxberg (Boxberg Power Station), the Förderbrücke F60 (F60 Overburden Conveyor Bridge) near Lichterfeld, the former Kraftwerk Plessa (Plessa Power Station), and many other landmarks.

Tourdaten:

  • Length: Approx. 19 km
  • Difficulty: medium
  • Duration: Approx. 5 hours

Route available on: outdooractive | komoot
